It is hard to believe it is already August!
There are still so many things on my “to do” list, I fear I may not get them all accomplished before the fall sets in.

Summer Updates...

Once again Sewing Studio sponsored the Portland Frocktails. It was another fun evening to share our makes, talk sewing and fabric, grab an amazing “swag bag” and nosh on some yummy food!  Those of us here in Portland are so fortunate, Becky Jo (@sewbeckyjo) does such a wonderful job coordinating this event is the best!

I must admit is did not plan my dress, and sewed up a Southport Dress by True Bias at the very last minute!   Last year things were very warm and I was looking for something that was loose and breathable!   I did not make my way in front of the camera much this year, but here is a fun shot with two AMAZING sewists - Mingaile of @Soapstealer and Karen of @Intostitches.  Both of these ladies used silk for their dresses, and the skill and styling has me in awe!  If you are not following them on IG - you will be wow’ed by them!

Psst...look at Mingailes’ ORANGE shoes - they are Perfect!

Challenges...

Sewing Studio was one of the prize donors for #fashionfeelsfabulous.  Check out the hashtag and enjoy some amazing makes, enjoy the reason we all sew for ourselves!

The current challenge that you need to consider is #sewcialmashup, hosted by Lori from @girlsinthegarden and Lindsay from @insidethehem.   This challenge asks that you take two patterns and mash them together to create one amazing garment!  The most exciting part of this challenge is the Grand Prize...a new Pfaff Sewing Machine!    You have until August 31st to Mash and Share...get working on this challenge now.

New in the Studio...

There are days when you end up having to “eat your words”.   I said I had no desire to sell Swim Wear!   Well, eating my words here.

A local swimwear manufacturer had some “deadstock” fabric that was destined for a land fill.    I was able to connect and grab a few options for customers to enjoy.   So...we now have a few swim fabrics for you to enjoy!  With all the new swim wear patterns released this spring and summer, I am sure you might find a perfect match for your next suit!

Check out the swim fabrics-

These are amazing quality - both sun and chlorine resistant.   Grab a yard and give this sewing trend a swing!

Also new is more Nani Iro.  This talented Japanese fabric designer has released her new book, “Nani Iro Sewing Studio” into the sewing world!   We have a few copies for you to grab and enjoy.  This book is now available in English, and includes 18 garment patterns you will sew, wear and love for many years!   Grab this book for yourself and all your sewing friends.

Check out our “New” fabrics or search “Nani Iro” for all that we have to offer of this beautiful designer.

You will love the new florals.. these will work equally as wonderful in fall as they will to wrap up summer.   Grab these beauties quickly,  as they are heading out the door each day and I do not anticipate these will be re-stocked!  If you have been intimidated by Rayon, check out this article by Seamwork How to Sew with Rayon, it will demystify this beautiful substrate!

Fall Sewing...

In thinking ahead to sewing for the Fall, I am thinking of wool jackets, jeans, wool knits... and all things cozy.  I have dozens of yards of Italian wool deadstock to add to the site - including some wool knits!  I have also ordered more of your favorite - Merino Wool knits deadstock.  Denim for all your jeans dreams, don’t overlook the Linen/Denim and the Silk/Denim!   Corduroy is the perfect fall and winter fabric - and we have many options to choose from.  Don’t overlook the Bamboo/Cotton French terry options for cardigans, pullovers and zip ups!

I have a trip to LA set for later this month and will work to source more unique fabrics for you to enjoy!  Please message me with any specific things you would like me to keep my eyes peeled for!

I enjoy all your emails, questions and shares - keep them coming!

Until next time,
